Summit Street Park, Belmont, QLD

Brisbane City Council

Brisbane City Council employed Ace Landscapes to extend the fun to be had at Summit Street Park by adding a sheltered nature play area. This initiative forms part of Council’s Sun-safe Suburban Playgrounds Program, an initiative striving to install shade sailing over playgrounds across Brisbane City to not only cool playground areas and equipment, but reduce sun and UV radiation exposure.

Well received by the community, the end product is a play area for all ages to have fun climbing, balancing and exploring. Adding shade sailing was essential, along with turf and additional paths around the playground that lead to a new sheltered rest area.

This installation featured a range of timber nature play products which are increasing in popularity due to their energy efficient, renewable and sustainable nature. They look fantastic, creating harmony between play equipment and the great outdoors whilst enhancing the play experience.

The use of timber play equipment is hypothesised to help foster exploratory and creative play as the organic shapes and textures of the wood stimulate a more sensory experience than traditional play equipment.
